They’ve been hiring new people for an unannounced Diablo project for a long time, but they also need money for that because they most likely not gonna invest in a franchise that doesn’t return interest quick enough. They don’t have to do anything specific for Diablo at all, a new WoW expansion, a new huge update for Overwatch or a trailer for a new mobile game would save face. It will likely be YEARS before we find out that we are even the target demographic. The announcement is simply the first step of a long, drawn out process of finding out bits of information over time. If D4 gets announced, it is in no way a guaranteed great game. But I’m curious as to how it will really pan out. There are sooooo many pitfalls, even more than the ones I’ve listed above. I think about all these things, and in the back of my mind I also think about the way Blizzard handled D3. Then, we have to see what D4 actually is. I guess it could mean D4? But to make things clear, here’s the hurdles ahead. I’m interpreting it as an on the spot, off the cuff comment. Nothing was said, other than ‘best Blizzcon in years’ - you’re interpreting that as meaning D4 announcement.
